The work consisted of rehabilitating the existing pavement in the South tube from New Jersey to New York. The Port Authority of NY and NJ awarded the job to Tilcon in July 2005. The work was to be performed at night, from Wednesday to Saturday, so as not to conflict with the heavy traffic volume traveling from New Jersey to New York. The work was completed in four weekends in October and November.
Tilcon was awarded the GSP Essex and Raritan Plaza one-way toll projects. The $3.6 million Essex project called for demolishing tollbooths, excavation of the existing roadways, milling and paving, and drainage installation. This was completed in 2005. The Raritan project went into effect at the Raritan and Asbury Park toll plazas, where motorists now pay a 70 cents toll at Raritan South and Asbury Park North. The high profile $10.9 million NJ Turnpike Authority contract was Tilcon’s largest construction job in 2004.
Tilcon supplied stone from our Clinton Point facility for an emergency shoreline reconstruction project of the Shore Parkway Seawall in Brooklyn. The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation project spanned two miles from Bay Ridge Avenue to Third Avenue in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, Kings County, NY. The project involved 12,000 cubic yards of 1 ½” stone, and 75,000 tons of other assorted stone sizes from ½ inch to five ton boulders.
A 16-acre parcel of the landfill has been filled to capacity and is being capped. After the initial regrading, six inches of sand is placed on top, followed by a plastic liner. A geocomposite layer is added next, then two feet of fill soil topped with six inches of top soil. The stone materials are being used for the construction of the 6,500 feet of drainage swales.
The stone requirements include: 50,000 tons of limestone screenings; 75,000 tons of QP; 10,000 tons of 2 ½” clean; 5,000 tons of gabion and 30,000 yards of overburden.
A civic partnership between Tilcon and Bloomingdale has enabled the Borough to begin construction of a new 7,200 square-foot Public Safety Complex and Emergency Management Operations Center. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on 5/2/06. Tilcon donated construction services and is providing asphalt material for the installation of the parking lot.
