This 2010 project involved placing 1661 tons of hot mix asphalt in a short time frame in a busy business district.
The work took place on the main business street in the town of Ridgewood, NJ, which is lined with many shops, restaurants and a movie theater. The project started late on a Friday evening and finished early on the following morning, to minimize disruption. The crew encountered numerous utility chamber grates, manholes and drainage grates and side streets and did a great job managing the transitions to all of them.
Morris County's Washington Ave and Main Street are in the town of Boonton.
This 2010 project consisted of laying 2900 tons of hot mix asphalt. Morris County requested that the lower section of the road, which is mainly residential, be milled and paved during the day and the upper section, which is mainly located in a business district, be milled and paved at night. The same crew was utilized for both day and night shift and the project completed with minimal disruption. At the end of each shift the road was striped and ready for traffic.
This 2010 project consisted of paving approx. 2 and a half miles of Alps Road, Wayne, NJ. Due to the heavy commuter traffic on this route, hours of work were limited to 9am to 4pm. 6,100 tons of hot mix asphalt were placed on the road and the project was completed with minimal disruption to traffic.
Route 208 is located in North West Bergen Co. and Central Passaic Co. The project began at mile post 3.3 in Hawthorne and ended at mile post 10.0 in Oakland at Rt. 287.
Rt. 208 is a major commuter route in Northern NJ towards the George Washington Bridge, NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. All lane closures were from 9pm to 5am.
This 2010 project consisted of a 2 inch mill and replace with 2 inches of hot mix asphalt. All ramps within the project limits were milled and resurfaced. A total of 52,400 tons of hot mix asphalt were placed.
This project was the recipient of a prestigious 2010 NJAPA Rutgers Paving Award.
Route 287 is a busy truck and commuter route connecting the NY State Thruway with Northern New Jersey.
In this 2010 project all work was limited to night hours, from 9pm to 5am. The travel lanes and inside shoulders were milled 3.5 inches and paved with a 2 inch intermediate course each night. A geotextile paving fabric was used on the milled surface to reduce cracking of the asphalt pavement. When all lanes were completed they were topped with 1.5 inches of Stone Matrix Asphalt. The outside shoulders were milled 2 inches and resurfaced with 2 inches of hot mix asphalt. A total of 38,200 tons of hot mix asphalt were placed during the project.
This two inch mill and pave night project was started on 29th June 2009. Milling and paving were completed September 3rd. Over 52,000 tons of Superpave hot mix asphalt were placed during that time, an average of 1450 tons per night, minimizing inconvenience to the travelling public. Excellent test results were achieved on this project. This project was the recipient of a 2009 NJAPA Annual Rutgers Paving Award.
Rt. 80 from Woodland Park to Wayne, NJ is a major east-west interstate highway route. This project was bid to mill 3 " down to concrete, and replace in kind with 3" 12H76. Overall this project achieved excellent compaction and rideability results. The project improved the ride and safety of this major interstate highway tremendously. The project was the recipient of a 2009 NAPA Quality in Construction Award.
Maple Ave, Fairlawn, NJ is a heavily travelled connecting road between Rt. 208 in Fairlawn to the terminus of Rt. 20 in Paterson, NJ. The project involved milling and laying approx 2,500 of Superpave. The road surface had become potholed and needed to be repaired as soon as winter broke. Tilcon completed milling in three days in March 2009, with restricted daytime hours working between morning and evening rush hour traffic. Paving was completed in two days, later in the month. This project was a recipient of a NAPA 2009 Quality in Construction Award.
Rt. 78 Greenwich to Pohatcong, NJ is a heavy truck traffic route. This project consisted of stabilizing the existing concrete highway with pressure grouting, crack stitching and doweling the concrete slab joints, excavating several areas of deteriorated concrete slabs, miles of new drainage and pipe cleaning, as well as miles of new guard rail. After paving an average of 6 inches of intermediate and surface superpave hot mix, along with one inch thick of reflective crack relief over the concrete pavement, the new road surface was safely constructed and smooth riding. This project was a recipient of a 2009 NAPA Quality in Construction Award.
Powerville Road in Boonton, NJ is a busy county road in rural northern Morris County which connects northeastern Morris County to central Morris County. There aren't many options for traffic diversion. The project had limited daylight hours and the project had to be alternated. Tilcon delivered a safe project, improved ride and great test results with minimal disruption to the travelling public. This project was a recipient of a 2009 NAPA Quality in Construction Award.
The Glens in Pompton Plains, NJ is a quiet homeowner association located in a wooded section of northern Morris County. Prior to paving, Tilcon curb line milled and reset drainage and utility structures. The main challenge of this job was the main small parking lots located off the main circular roadway. Also maintaining access and safety for the homeowners was very important. This project was the recipient of a 2009 NAPA Quality in Construction Award.
As part of September Safety Month 2011 Wellness Fairs were held at both our Pompton Lakes and Mt. Hope facilities. They included a certified nutritionist, massage therapists, chiropractors and registered nurses that performed blood pressure checks. Employees took part in a fitness challenge that included sit-ups, push-ups, grip strength, basketball hoop throw and hula- hoop challenge.
Tilcon employees joined forces with representatives from other local Oldcastle group companies from April to September 2011, to build a family home in Paterson, NJ for a family in need.
In September 2010 Tilcon NJ held a Western-themed Skidsteer Rodeo as part of September Safety Month. Competitors took part in Skidsteer and Telehandler competitions and there was a Costume Competition for children.
Since our 2010 Earth Day Photo Competition was so popular, we ran it again this year. Again we invited employees to submit photos in two categories - Landscape and Wildlife. We have some very talented staff members, as you can see from the results.
