Bloomingdale Opens New Public Safety Complex
The community of Bloomingdale, NJ thanked Tilcon December 1 at the grand opening of its new Public Safety Complex, home of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department . To assist with the construction of the Complex, Tilcon provided site clearance, excavation, grading, soil removal, drainage installation, sanitary sewer and water lines, together with the installation of asphalt on a 1055 sq foot parking lot. Tilcon's generous donation saved approx $750,000 of the costs of constructing the facility. A plaque will be installed on the new building acknowledging Tilcon's contribution.
Honoring our Heroes in West Nyack
Tilcon New York sponsored the inaugural Honor our Heroes event, held November 3 at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack, NY. Organized by the Journal News the event honoured local people who have accomplished extraordinary things, including teachers, military personnel, firefighters, EMT/rescue workers and environmentalists. Tilcon New York President, John Cooney Jr, along with Clarkstown Town Supervisor Alexander Gromack presented awards to the recipients recognizing their achievements.
Other 'good neighbor activities'
* Tilcon donated asphalt for a school playground in Prospect Park in September 2007.
*Tilcon presented a check for $10,000 to help with medical expenses, to a local Bloomingdale, NJ family who have three young sons with forms of cerebral palsy.
* In conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, construction continues on the Tilcon House, a new family home in Newburgh, NY. Tilcon volunteers have been busy completing exterior and interior construction work and decorating, including 30 volunteers who attended the Tilcon Group Painting Party February 9. The home dedication is scheduled for March 8.
* In September Tilcon provided a front-end bucket loader for children to climb aboard at the Riverdale Street Fair, Riverdale, NJ.
* Also in September, Tilcon staff manned a stand at the Bloomingdale Pride Day, providing rock painting, activity sheets and lollipops for local children.
* During the Fall two dozen cadets from the West Point Military Academy toured the Tomkins Cove and Haverstraw quarries. Cadets learned about the stone that is quarried at the two locations, how it is quarried and processed, how it is transported and what types of projects it is used for.
