Internship Program
An Internship with Tilcon offers a great opportunity to learn more about the aggregate and construction industries and gain valuable on-the-job experience. If you think you might be interested in a career in our sector, joining us as an Intern provides a great opportunity to find out what it’s really like. Each year Tilcon takes on several Interns, many of whom go on to be hired full-time and have successful careers with us. A few examples of people who have joined in this way are shown below. To apply for an Internship please Submit your Resume or Contact Us to find out more.
Greg Butler

Greg Butler – Assistant Superintendent/Engineering, NY Construction
Greg was an Intern at Tilcon during the summer of 2005 while studying for a B.S. in Civil Engineering at Rutgers University. His Internship was facilitated by the Construction Industry Advancement Program of NJ (CIAP) which provides students with a tuition stipend and summer employment opportunities with participating companies. Tilcon is an active participant in the CIAP Program. After graduation Greg joined Tilcon full time in May 2006 in the role of Assistant Superintendent/Engineering in the New York Construction division. His role combines both office and field-based duties including project scheduling and estimating as well as job layout and preparation. ‘For me, one of the great things about working with a large organization like Tilcon is the opportunity to work with  a wide range of people and be exposed to a diverse range of Construction projects’ says Greg.

Rebecca Rodgers – Quality Control Manager
Rebecca completed an Internship at Tilcon in 2000 while studying Geology at James Madison University, VA. As an Intern she worked in both Quality Control and Environmental Engineering. After graduation, in 2001, Rebecca joined Tilcon in the role of Quality Control Technician. In 2002 she left Tilcon to complete a Masters degree in Geology, returning in 2004 as Assistant Quality Control Manager and subsequently promoted to Quality Control Manager in 2006. Rebecca found that the industry exposure she gained during her Internship proved to be invaluable and was a key factor in her decision to pursue a career at Tilcon.

Claudio Ledesma

Claudio Ledesma – Foreperson, NJ Construction
Claudio worked as an Intern for Tilcon during the summers of 2004 and 2005 while studying for a B.S. in Civil Engineering at N.J.I.T. Upon graduation, he joined Tilcon full-time in May 2006 as a Foreperson in the NJ Construction Division. His role is largely field-based and involves responsibility for managing Construction projects including job scheduling, planning and ordering materials. During his time at Tilcon Claudio has worked on major heavy highway work such as the Raritan, Essex and Bergen Toll Plazas. He is convinced that the on-the-job experience he gained as a Tilcon Intern helped him both as an undergraduate and now that he has embarked upon his career. He says ‘At college my practical experience definitely gave me a head start compared to other students who didn’t work in the summer and now that I’m working full-time, that same experience gives me respect in the field. I’m not just a kid straight out of college. Being book-smart is one thing but you need to know a few tricks of the trade.

Clif Morris

Clif Morris – Plant Manager, Mt Hope Quarry
During his undergraduate days as a student at Virgina Tech, Clif completed several internships in different areas of the country and in different industries. During the summer of 2002 he worked as an Intern for Tilcon in the Quality Control Dept at Mt Hope Quarry, a facility he now runs, 5 years later, as Plant Manager.

In May 2003 Clif completed a BS in Mining and Minerals Engineering from Virginia Tech, joining Tilcon in October 2006 as Plant Manager for Mt Hope. Mt Hope Quarry is one of the elite hard rock quarries in the United States, comprising a crushing plant, three on-site asphalt plants and a recycle facility.

Clif considers the most important aspect of his current role to be that of managing the staff at Mt Hope to safely produce high quality stone products. The internships he took part in have been ‘terrific learning opportunities that have enabled me to observe different management styles close at hand and exposed me to many useful techniques that I have been able to carry forward into my career’.
